Following the Noble Eightfold Path allows someone to eliminate desires the keep a person from reaching nirvana. Once a person reaches “Purity of thought and life” becomes an arahat (someone who is freed from the need of Samsara (rebirth) and is ready for nirvana). The word, Nirvana comes from Sanskrit, and means “Blowing Out”.
