The Citizenship Amendment Bill seeks to allow citizenship to illegal migrants belonging to six communities namely Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian coming from Afghanistan, Bangladesh or Pakistan. The Bill has no provision for providing citizenship to Muslim and Jews. The Bill aims to amend the Citizenship Act of 1955. It also appeals for the minimum years of residency in India to apply for citizenship to be lessened from at least 11 to six years for such migrants.
