The Himalayas were formed due to folding of the geo-syncline named Tethys. 225 million years ago (Ma) India was a large island situated off the Australian coast and separated from Asia by the Tethys Ocean. So it has orginated from the Tethys Geosyncline . the sediments of this folded due to the northward movement of the Indian plate against the Eurasian Plate.
