Lok Adalats are important as an alternative mode of dispute settlement, where disputes pending in Court of law are settled. It is organised by state or district authorities under Legal Services Authorities Act of 1987. A case goes to Lok Adalat if two parties make a joint statement to compromise. Its major aims include securing justice to weaker sections and mass disposal of cases to reduce cost and delay. It does not give power to rule to common man.
